Band Diary

14/03/07 | Welcome

Welcome to this, our third day in the studio and our first of what should be a weekly diary entry. I'm writing this to lift back the curtain and give a glimpse into our world of late. I hope, dear reader, you like it. We've hired a very tiny band room and we're just starting to fertilize the new songs together. Fertilize might sound a bit suspicious we're, well, incubating the songs.

After we finished touring last year we went to McGee’s place in Wales for a bit. Not to write so much as level our heads a bit and muse and reflect and that. It was all pretty Withnail; desolate and isolated.

Since we got back to London we decamped to Anthony’s east end bunker. We’ve been taking the writing in various new directions and just trying new stuff. We’ve got many different writing methods. We’ve been doing our nocturnal sessions that include a few drinkies in and a tape recorder for memories’ sake. In the past I’ve forgotten stuff there’s few gems out there, in the ether. Well, probably.

I’ve been writing on the tube lots in my little notebooks. I’ve got scores of notebooks, I think my life is a series of page ones. I always get a new book, like it’s a fresh start, and do my finest handwriting print in it and it goes awry by page two and by page three I want to start again. So I’ve got a lot of those that I’m pulling together. Good.

Anthony’s had a lot more input on this record so far. He’s helping to pull it together. So much so that with the bass amp he had in his house he played it and the bass vibrations shattered every glass in the house. And now Anthony’s got two massive slashes in his foot as a result.

Outside of the recording, I noticed that the printed press wasn’t entirely accurate after I spoke to them recently at that NME do ... it just goes to show you have to be careful when you’re mumbling and who you’re mumbling to.

Gary hasn’t heard a lot of this stuff, but he’s getting into it. Didz is enjoying his new Rat pedal and playing some sinister stomps that sound grand. I’ve got a wah-wah, but everything on it sounds like porn. I’ll sort it out though.

Even though it’s only three days in we’ve got a whole bunch of very promising things done. We’ve got about 10 songs in their entirety and we’re still writing more. Maybe you’ll hear them soon… The musical range seems quite vast compared to Waterloo To Anywhere.

Anyway must go things to do........More soon.
